Urbandale Girls Basketball Coach Mark Tiby has announced his retirement as the Head Girls Basketball Coach at Urbandale High School; the 2011-2012 season marked his 20th season at the school. Tiby plans to continue to teach in the District as an Elementary Physical Education Teacher.
Tiby amassed a career record of 402-379 in 35 years on the court. Urbandale was Tiby's third stop as a Head Coach, following time at Earlham and DM East. Tiby led the J-Hawks to the State Tournament in 1994 and earned his 400th career victory this season at home against Fort Dodge.
Tiby was selected as the 2001 National Winner of the Service Award presented by the NHSACA, the 2009 Iowa Character Counts Coach of the Year, and serves as the Executive Secretary of the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.
Mark Tiby noted that two of his proudest moments as a coach were his induction to the Iowa Girls Coach Association Hall of Fame as a Basketball Coach in 2006 and the 2007 Girls Basketball season at Urbandale where the J-Hawks, with his daughter Rachael Tiby on the team, won the CIML Central Conference.
