March 17 - 11:15AM:  Frerichs' Field Closed

In light of Governor Reynolds recommendation to close schools and the recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control to limit gatherings, Frerichs’ Field and the Track will be closed until further notice.

While we certainly see the value during this time of individual physical fitness, we have no way to control groups and teams from gathering and utilizing the field and the track with the stadium open.  Recent days have demonstrated this to be true.

March 16 - 7:00PM:  Notice on School Closure

All Urbandale CSD schools are closed beginning today, March 16, per Governor Reynolds’ recommendation to close all Iowa schools for four (4) weeks. All school-related programming, activities, athletics, Adventuretime, and Community Education classes are cancelled. Based on current information, students would return to school on Monday, April 13, 2020.

School Activities Beyond April 13

We know spring activities such as band concerts, choir concerts, prom, senior honors ceremony, graduation, and many more, are top of mind for many students and families. Given the ever-changing nature of the COVID-19 situation, we will assess the ability to hold previously scheduled events closer to the time in which they are scheduled.

March 16 - 9:45AM:  School Closures Suspend Iowa High School Spring Activities

This morning, the Iowa High School Athletic Association, the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, the Iowa High School Music Association, and the Iowa High School Speech Association have released information on the heels of the recommended closure of schools through Friday, April 10, 2020.

Athletics

All IHSAA and IGHSAU sports are now in a prohibited period for practice, competition, and sanctioned activity until the closure is lifted.  This prohibition means no in-person contact between coaches / administrators and student-athletes for the duration of the period.

Guidance on future IHSAA and IGHSAU activity schedule adjustments and their effects on season lengths, as well as postseason events, will be announced at a later date.

Music

The IHSMA has cancelled the Class 4A and 1A Solo/Ensemble Festival set for April 18, and the State Large Group Festival set for May 9 (that was to be hosted by Urbandale High School).

There should be no-in person contact between teachers / administrators and participants for the duration of the prohibited period.

Speech

All IHSSA (speech) events will be prohibited until the closure is lifted.  All contact between coaches, judges, and students for the duration of the period is prohibited.  The All-State Festival scheduled for March 30 has been cancelled.
