On Saturday October 8, 2011, the 137-member J-Hawk Marching Band performed at West Des Moines’ Valleyfest contest.
Their memorial performance title “Remembering September 11th – 10 Years Later” has been dedicated to those whose lives were forever impacted on that tragic day.
Director Myron Peterson, “We were 100% satisfied with the students’ performance on Saturday. When a full stadium the size of Valley Stadium falls silent and you know everyone is thinking the same thing at the same time – remembering those who were lost – you know the performance transcended the contest and reached the audience on a deeper and more meaningful level. And that is our mission – to inspire an Audience.”
Seniors, Kelsey Ferneau, Lydia Penningroth, and Scott Miller
were recognized as best soloists in
Class 4A.
The band is back in competition this Saturday at Waukee at 11:40am in the State Marching Contest.
