Two J-Hawk Wrestlers advanced to the final step of the 2011 State Wrestling Tournament with victories in the semifinal round on Friday night.
Colby Knight, 39-2, defeated Matt Birnbaum of Fort Dodge 5-2. Knight will square off against Jake Agnitsch of Ames on Saturday night for the 112 lb State Championship in Class 3A. Knight was a State Runner-Up in 2010.
Gabriel Moreno, 40-1, beat Jacob Smith of Bettendorf in the 145 lb weight class 10-2. Moreno will face Zach Witte of Cedar Rapids Prairie who upset the top-ranked wrestler in the weight class. Moreno placed 3rd at the 2010 State Meet.
Jesse South lost to Connor Herman of Cedar Rapids Jefferson 5-2. South will wrestle back in an attempt to earn 3rd Place in the 215 lb weight class.
South won his wrestle back against Brad Gingerich of Iowa City, City High School and will wrestle for 3rd place on Saturday at 12:00pm against Evan Rethmeier of Newton.
