Girls Track & Field Wraps Up Strong Showing at 2026 State Championships

The Urbandale J-Hawk Girls Track & Field team wrapped up a strong weekend at the 2026 Iowa State Track & Field Championships, held May 21-23 at Drake Stadium, finishing 19th overall with 9 team points against some of the top competition in the state.

The J-Hawks were represented across multiple individual and relay events, highlighted by several personal and season best performances on the Blue Oval.

Sophomore Madi Reed opened the meet in the 100m Dash, posting a Personal Best time of 12.66 to finish 18th overall in the prelims. Freshman Penelope Pederson continued her impressive season in the 100m Hurdles, running 15.88 to place 20th in the prelims.

Urbandale showcased strong depth in the 200m Dash with two athletes qualifying for state competition. Junior Mia German recorded a Personal Best 25.73 to finish 16th in the prelims, while junior teammate Fiona Mulligan also posted a Personal Best time of 25.48, placing 12th overall.

In the 400m Hurdles, junior Annabelle Schwartz crossed the line in 1:07.98 to finish 23rd overall.

Senior Tatum Johnson closed out an outstanding high school career in the Shot Put, earning a 4th place state finish with a top throw of 43-05.00. Johnson's performance capped off a remarkable career as one of the top throwers in program history.

The J-Hawks also found success in relay competition throughout the weekend. The 800m Sprint Medley Relay team earned a 12th place finish while posting a Season Best time of 1:49.07.

The Girls 4x100m Relay team delivered one of the top performances of the weekend for Urbandale. After qualifying for finals with a 48.86 in prelims, the J-Hawks turned around and ran a Season Best 48.51 in the finals to secure a 5th place state finish.

In the 4x200m Relay, Urbandale posted a time of 1:44.18 to finish 13th overall. The Girls 4x800m Relay team rounded out the state meet by placing 23rd with a time of 10:08.39.

The J-Hawks conclude the 2026 season with numerous personal best performances, multiple relay qualifiers, and another strong showing on Iowa's biggest stage.
